Think “The Bachelor” meets “Total Wipeout” and you’ll get channel 4’s latest dating show The Love Trap. The 8 part series follows “Too Hot To Handle”s David Birtwistle as he tries to determine if the female contestant are in it for love or the cash prize. All the women will try and convince David that they’re geniune as at the end of each episode, the suspected love trap gets dumped quite literally (and brutally) through a trap door.
Channel 4’s Factual Entertainment commissioning editor Lee McMurray said: “Like Cluedo for love, everyone will get to play along at home in this hugely entertaining new format, which tests character and commitment in a fresh way.” So let’s meet the contestants and see if you can get ahead on whose a love and a whose a trap.
DAVID BIRTWISTLE
The bachelor is Netflix’s ” Too Hot To Handle” David, who seems to be quite unlucky in love.
He has described his ideal partner as: “outgoing, and fun, and bubbly”. He added: “I want a best friend as well as a partner. And someone who’s driven, that they want to achieve in their life, and they want to go places.”
Chloe
22 year old Chloe is a professional ballroom dancer from Colchester.
She stated before she went into the mansions that her ambition was “definitely to meet somebody.”
“I can work, I can make money. I’ve never relied on anyone else for money. I work hard for it, so if I want to make money, I’ll make it myself,” she added. “I’ve come on here to try and make myself a better person in terms of letting my walls down and things like that.”
Elise
Essex born Elsie is a masters student and is confident she knows what she’s looking for, saying: “‘I like big shoulders and dark hair, but I want someone that can make me belly laugh. It’s not like when you crack a joke and you’re politely like, “Oh, ha ha ha.” Someone who can literally make me laugh so much you can’t breathe and you feel like you’re getting a six pack. I want that!”
Kelly
Dog groomer Kelly is from Birmingham and considers herself as a “glass half full” girl. The 26-year-old added that she is “a bubbly person,” and “Generally happy, bubbly, positive.” While she always tries to see the positive in tricky situations, she said her star signs means she can also be fiery. “I’m a Leo, so I’ve got that fire inside of me sometimes when needed,” she said.
Demi
Demi is a model, dancer and actress from Liverpool who spoke following her experience on the show, describing it as a “rollercoaster”. The 28 year old is the oldest contestant attempting to win over the heart of 30-year-old David. “I absolutely loved being with the girls and I really loved getting to know David and we honestly had the best time,” she said. “It was a rollercoaster. One day I was crying, the next day I was happy and the next day I was doing a catwalk or the splits and the next day I’m losing my head, about to kick off. You get so wrapped up in it.”
Eleanor
Barnsley lass Eleanor, 25, is a Customer service and NHS admin worker who knows what her usual type is. She’s looking for someone tall, dark and handsome, so will 5’11” brunette Birtwistle be her idea of handsome? Eleanor told Channel 4: “I feel like my typical type is just your typical tall, dark, and handsome. Someone who makes me laugh, someone that I can trust. I don’t ask for much, so where’s my man at?!”
Thea
23 year old waitress Thea from Haywards Heath, Sussex, likes a man who is more mature than the guys her age. She said of her ideal other half: “I’m looking for someone that is a bit older than me, someone who’s got their life together and has ambition.” While David has his own personal training company and is a Nike ambassador, she also said she needs someone who is a bit rough around the edges and has good fun. Thea added: “Someone that has got a good sense of humour, not a pretty boy, but someone that definitely cares about what they look like. Someone that’s into fitness. Someone that’s confident. So I don’t ask for much!”
J’haire
Office manager J’Harie, from Reading, is playing it cool, keeping her cards close to her chest and hopes she can find love and some cash. The 26-year-old said: “I would definitely say that love is more important to me, but obviously money is sweet as well. Makes the world go round.”
Saran
Classical musician Saran is the only Welsh contestant on the show. The 25-year-old is said to be taking part in the show to step outside her comfort zone. “It’s something new and exciting, and I think that’s why it drew my attention a little more than something like Love Island, because God knows what could happen with this show. It could blow up,” she said.
