Our Essential Spring Layering Guide

Spring has well and truly sprung. The days are getting longer and there’s every chance our hemlines are getting shorter. But, don’t make any wardrobe switch-ups without reading EGO’s guide to spring layering because you might cast off those lovely layers too quickly – it’s still quite chilly out there – and find yourself with an outfit that doesn’t quite chime with the ever-changeable UK climate.

When it comes to the trends that will dominate this spring, there’s a lot to look forward to from a cute layers perspective. Read on to find a host of ideas for spring dressing and upgrading your new season wardrobe for the year ahead, and spoiler alert: spring trends are looking pretty cute this year, babe

Spring ‘fits but make ‘em preppy

The preppy trend has been redefined by Gen Z and is now less about button-down shirts, and country club style and more about cute skirts, and frilly tops paired with floral accents. A great place to start would be the Belted Pleated Mini Skirt worn with the Ice Cream Stripe Knit and topped off with the Flower Detail Necklace in Classic Silver. But, a word of caution. This look can get chilly if you don’t layer up so we recommend the Button Detail Trench Coat in stylish nude tones. Or if a coat feels simply too much when the sky is blue and the sun is shining then substitute the striped knit for a toastier piece of knitwear in the form of the Oversized V Neck Jumper with its super-preppy floral motif. Divine.

Take a walk on the wild side

Animal prints were all over the catwalk at the beginning of the year and here at EGO, we are ‘roar’ing into action to bring you all the runway-inspired layering looks for your refreshed spring wardrobe. Leap into printed action with the stunning Leopard Print Cropped Cardigan in the softest tones of biscuit and chocolate then add the Leopard Print Mesh Dresh to the basket to enhance your animal print vibes. Puurrrfrrectly wild!

Layered but make it luxe

One of the most important trends for Spring 24 is the look of luxe. That’s the stealth wealth trend to us lesser mortals meaning that it’s super fashionable to adopt a subtle dress code that exudes luxury without the obvious markers, such as excessive logos or flashy, gaudy details. For instance, beige-on-beige is especially popular this season and to channel this look you could start with the Long Sleeve Fold-Over Crop-Top and grab the matching Soft Beige Fold Over Trousers. Then, to layer this outfit, and keep you toasty you simply grab the Beige Trench Coat and add subtle jewellery such as the discreet Crucifix Necklace and the matching Crucifix Diamante Earrings.

Chic prints, and layered separates in different textures to create visual interest were also a huge part of the designer runway mix in early 2024. This is all part of the ‘Boss Bitch’ vibe and we are very fond of showing our power moves through our stellar ‘fits this spring. We can’t help but lean into classic, tailored silhouettes in neutral shades like black, white, beige, grey, and navy – this is what the wealthy wear on repeat – and so we have been wearing this classy af  Fold-Over Neck Jumpsuit in the palest minky grey more often than is strictly necessary. When an outfit looks this good it’s hard to ignore the appreciative glances and when clouds gather and layers beckon it’s all too easy to throw on a structured full-length piece like the Grey Maxi Coat. A wardrobe winner for seasons to come and the opportunity to nail the contrasting textures trend too! You might not be on this season’s Rich List, but you know your way around great value for money, girl!

Rack-up the rocks

On the ready-to-wear runways, all the best designers showed layered looks in their jewellery choices as well, including cascading necklaces, rings on every finger and bracelets stacked up to there…everywhere! Don’t worry though, here at EGO the jewellery selection is unsurpassed so let’s start with earrings – ear candy is EVERYWHERE. These Gold Drop Earrings are classics in their own right but look even better when stacked up alongside the Flower Detail Earrings in the cutest white and gold. Nailing both the layered and the preppy trend in one go! Clever girl!

Perhaps you are more of a necklace queen? Why not try layering up your necklaces by introducing two, or even three but keep them in the same shades so that the colours do the talking? Start with the Initial Necklace with diamante details and then add the Multi Flower Necklace in White and Gold. Make this divine duo a tantalising trio with the addition of the Bow Detail Necklace and the tones of gold and white will reflect the sun that is soon to come. We live in hope!!

Layering the good stuff

Sometimes we don’t want high impact though, do we? We want the fashionability and stylishness of the layered look but we want easy, comfortable pieces that we can throw on and off with ease. We hear you! Leggings, joggers and loungewear have all been stepped up a notch this season so you can be safe in the knowledge that you are acing the layered look whilst satisfying your desire for comfort. Try the High Waist Joggers in acid-wash stone fabric for your base layer then add the Long Sleeve Ruched Crop Top and a toasty top lawyer such as the Cross Patch Hoodie and you are ready for a day of comfort, layered style. You might even add the Closed Toe Flat Clog if your day involves schlepping from place to place and you don’t want to get out of your slippers. These faux-suede clogs are the perfect compromise.

Remember EGO’s here to nail all the spring trends this year, babe. You don’t want to be behind the curve, nor do we so we scour the catwalks to make sure we interpret all the top trends on your behalf. Check out all of our very best spring pieces but be quick, because the spring sun won’t be here forever and new ‘fits are beckoning right now.
